The Second Annual East Coast Reality Therapy Seminar

When I attended Augusta College (now known as Augusta State University) I took a Psychology class on Counseling taught by Harry Thompson. This class focused on the work of Carl Rogers, but I also discovered William Glasser, and read his books Reality Therapy and The Identity Society. I was extremely interested when Harry Thompson decided to bring Dr. Glasser to Augusta, GA to give a seminar.

I happened to be also working as a student in the campus theatre. Someone needed to do the technical work of running the lighting and sound for this seminar. When there was a rock band playing in the theatre, I had lots of competition for doing this work. But for a psychology seminar, none of the other student employees were interested.

The First Annual East Coast Reality Therapy Seminar was held in 1973. The very title of it displays the optimism for the future. As there was a monitoring microphone hanging from the ceiling, and a reel-to-reel tape deck in the projection booth, I bought a reel of tape and made a monaural recording of the seminar. I no longer have the recording of that seminar. I gave it to Harry Thompson, and I believe that he gave it to Dr. Glasser. In any event, I never got it back.

There was indeed a Second Annual East Coast Reality Therapy Seminar held at Augusta College, Augusta GA in the Fall of 1974. I also did the theatre technical work for this one, and recorded it. This time I kept the tape. I think there was also a third such seminar, but I moved away.
